ITV Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd fumes on podcast as listener gets his name wrong

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd didn't appear too impressed when a listener of the podcast he hosts with his soap co-stars got his name wrong. But in their defence, he had been associated with the name for more than 20 years.

Away from his role on-screen the actor, who is famed for playing David Platt in the ITV soap, appears on his very own podcast with fellow Corrie actors Colson Smith and Ben Price, who play Craig Tinker and Nick Tilsley. The Sofa Cinema Club podcast, which they first launched in 2018, hears, and sees, them set aside an evening to settle down on the sofa and watch a movie.

After each movie night, the soap stars swap their sofas for the studio to discuss what they loved, hated and rated about the films. And Jack, Colson, and Ben recently revealed they're taking their podcast to the stage with a sold-out live show at the International Anthony Burgess Foundation.

But a new clip from the podcast posted to its Instagram page shows people still can't quite separate Jack from his Corrie character, which he has played since 2000 when he was just 12 years old.

In the clip, Ben starts reading a message from the listener: "I just want to say I love you guys. Ben is mint. David and Colson are hilarious." As Ben grins with glee, Jack's face drops as he says: "Oh wow! Oh wow!" Ben and Colson, meanwhile, can be heard saying: "Get in!" as they reveled in the mistake.

"That's the best review ever!" Ben added. "Let me just read that again," he said before repeating the review for Jack's listening pleasure. Jack's seen shaking his head before he turns round and says: "It's not even my f***ing name." Colson can be heard saying: "Yes David!" before Ben clarifies: "It's not your name, it's your character."

"David Platt, Platt, Platt!" Colson begins to chant before Ben joins in and a laughing Jack continues to shake his head. And the post was, as expected, quickly littered with crying laughing emojis in the comments section. @audrey_vanderstoop said: "It's because 'David' is so good as that character!" @cathyshortcakemusic commented: "Love it." @lioness1954 added: "You're All Mint, you make me smile every day, keep it up."

Last month Jack actually came face-to-face with David Platt for the first time - and he wasn't looking in the mirror. Jack ditched Manchester for a special trip to Blackpool as he was officially immortalised in wax at the seaside resort's Madame Tussauds and it was the soap star who got to personally unveil the new figure. The 34-year-old came face to face with his wax version for the first time alongside his mum, Janet, and girlfriend, Hanni Treweek.

He got his first glimpse at the figure as artists made the final touches, adding those all-important freckles, skin texture, and all the tiny details that make the figures so unbelievably lifelike. And in taking residence at Madame Tussauds on Blackpool’s famous promenade, the new 'David Platt' joins some of the most iconic characters from Coronation Street, including Jack and Vera, Bet Lynch, Deirdre and Ken, and Michelle Connor.

After pictures were released from the unveiling, with one showing Jack open-mouthed as he was greeted by his own waxwork, the soap star took to Instagram with a snap of him posing just like his new doppelganger. His Corrie co-star, both past and present, and celebrity pals were quick to respond. Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Connor in the ITV soap, joked: "Two of you. God help us. It looks incredible though!!!! Congratulations." Podcast co-host Colson raved: "BEST WAX WORK EVER."

Samia Longchambon, who stars as Corrie's Maria Windass, wrote: " Bloody brilliant!" Tyrone Dobbs actor Alan Halsall replied: " That is AMAZING." Michelle Keegan, who starred as Jack's on-screen partner Tina McIntyre in the soap, posted: "Amazing Jack!!!!!!" Current on-screen wife Julia Goulding, aka Shona Platt, typed: "This is absolutely fantastic!"
