ITV Coronation Street's Phill star Jamie Kenna unveils hidden talent as he announces job away from the cobbles

His character may have hid a secret during his first few months on the cobbles but Coronation Street star Jamie Kenna is also hiding a talent away from viewers. The actor joined the ITV soap last year as Phill Whittaker, Fiz Stape's new love interest.

He soon became the Underworld machinists knight in shining armour following her upsetting split from long-term partner Tyrone Dobbs after he cheated on her with lodger Alina Pop. And the pairs relationship has been a whirlwind.

The pair had planned to move into Phill's posh new home, but troubles with repairs has led to Fiz moving back into the home she shared with Tyrone as well as their children Hope and Ruby. And despite Fiz discovering her new man was writing a book about her serial killer ex-husband, the hopeless romantic still agreed to marry him.

Off-screen, however, Jamie's secret is a lot less damaging. The 48-year-old is not only an actor, having starred in the likes of Green Street, he is also a talented singer and guitar player.

Last month, Jamie shared the news that he was back out performing to people following the coronavirus pandemic. He shared: "Very excited to be gigging this jubilee Friday. Can’t wait to see you all there!"

He also took to Instagram a matter of days ago to share a video of him enjoying a jamming session at home. "Just having a little jam so thought I’d share!" he wrote as his thousands of followers listened to his rendition of Prince classic 'Purple Rain'.

Corrie co-star Jack James Ryan, who plays Jacob Hay in the ITV soap, was among the first to comment, writing: "Man of many talents," to which Jamie modestly replied: "haha or jack of all trades master of none!!"

But Jack wasn't having any of it and continued to praise his fellow soap actor. "Jamie, this is honestly class brother," he enthused. Meanwhile, Elle Mulvaney, who plays Jack's on-screen girlfriend Amy Barlow, simply said: "Love it!"

And fans were just as impressed. @aw_2404 said: "You have a great voice Jamie." @lesleywagner wrote: "Very talented great voice!!!!" @autism_guy_2000 commented: "Alright Phil I didn't know you can sing and play guitar, Fiz is a lucky woman."

@emmastags028 replied: "Wow amazing voice." @ally_t_scott shared: "Beautiful voice." @b_1236227 said: "Didn't expect that. Talented man." @michelleyoung43 added: "Brilliant..so talented..thank you for sharing."

Jamie is also set to stretch his acting, and possibly singing, talents further as he announced a new job away from the cobbles earlier this week. He revealed he has landed a job at Crewe Lyceum this Christmas as he was announced in the panto cast.

He will be playing the evil Abanazar in the venue's production of Aladdin. "Who's coming???" Jamie asked as he shared a post from the theatre revealing his part. In the meantime thought, all eyes are on Phill as he and Fiz walk down the aisle.
