ITV Coronation Street's new trailer leaves fans in despair for 'horribly miserable' character

Coronation Street is not holding back as it gears up for a change next week.

The ITV soap is currently teasing fans about what's to come as the programme gets a new schedule.

From Monday, March 7, the soap will air in three hour-long episodes across the week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

With a trip to Weatherfield now not planned until Friday due to the latest FA Cup action, Corrie made sure to keep viewers' interest.

"Hold on to your hats as high stakes drama and life and death dilemmas propel Coronation Street into it's new hour-long episode era," the soap shared from its social media channels.

The message appeared alongside a 20-second clip that took fans on a whistlestop tour of some of the soap's favourite characters.

It started with Abi Franklin who looked like she was scoring drugs before being seen worse for wear on the sofa at the home she had estranged husband Kevin.

Tyrone is seen giving her a telling off for the state she is in before seconds later she's seen in a car.

Elsewhere, Laura Neelan is seen telling Gary Windass that she's going to get her hands on her ex-husband Rick's money to leave to daughter Kelly when she dies.

But the news puts the frighteners on Gary as everyone is unaware that he killed loan shark Rick.

Gary's wife Maria is then seen asking her husband: "What we going to do?" to which he worryingly replies: "I don't know!"

It has already been revealed that Laura hires a private detective forcing Gary to answer some very tricky questions and when news reaches him of a new building development planned for the very place he buried Rick’s body he sets to work to cover his tracks.

But there's horror on the cobbles when a body is found.

Fans, however, were too distracted by Abi in the latest trailer and despaired over her latest downward spiral.

@donbags wrote: "Abi again. God forbid this character is happy for more than two episodes.

"Noooooo!! Abi is a better character than that! They're just doing a Peter with her!" @michelle_wi11 shared.

@hankins_band said: "I just want Abi to not be so horribly miserable! Her level of hamartia needs elevation. She's lost everything over and over again. I want ABI to have a higher lever of rock bottom, so to speak. Love @sally_carman__"

"A storyline where Abi goes off the rails? Wow haven’t seen that one before," @LennonHartley29 commented.

But @MJ_JJ061215 argued: "You can never have enough of Abi. @sallycarman1 is the best actor in #Corrie by a million miles. I love her and her storylines. I really hope she can get back with Kevin."
