Gary Windass could find himself back on the wrong side of the law as he comes to Kelly Neelan's rescue in upcoming Coronation Street scenes. It was revealed on Monday that the teen will find herself involved in a kidnap horror.
This week, Gary will find out that Kelly has been heading off to meet her dad Rick Neelan's former clients in a bid to right his wrongs and give them his dirty money. Her actions are revealed when Kelly sees Aadi Alahan out of the barbers and suddenly a wad of cash falls out of her bag leaving her friend shocked.
Kelly explains that the cash belonged to her dad and she’s trying to return it to the people he ripped off over the years. - something Corrie fans had already suspected. While Aadi urges her to seek the advice of her guardian Gary, Kelly refuses to listen and carries on with her plans.
But when Gary gets wind of her plans from Sharon, he's furious and sparks fly between Kelly and her guardian as he knows only too well how dangerous Rick’s associates are. Kelly still refuses to listen, telling him he's not her dad, and ends up calling at a house and introduces herself as Rick Neelan’s daughter.
As she hands Ross an envelope full of cash, she explains that she’s trying to make up for her dad's wrongdoing. Ross isn't impressed but is soon seen making a call to a mate and tells him about Kelly’s visit. And as we now know, she finds herself being captured by one of her dad’s evil old clients, Kieron, after she tracks him down to pay him back his money.
It's at this moment that Kelly is kidnapped and locked in a cellar, terrified that her days are numbered. Back on the street, Gary and Maria realise Kelly has not been home all night and when Aadi tells them she went to see another of her dad’s old clients Gary panics.
Kieron gives Kelly her phone and tells her to text Gary to tell him she is fine. but when Gary gets the text telling him to let her mum know she is ok he knows something is not right. Kieron then starts making threats, phoning Gary from Kelly's phone and tells him that if he wants to see Kelly alive again, he needs to come up with £50k.
It's not long before he springs into action and is soon forcing his way into the cellar revealing to Kelly he had put the tracking device in the money bag he had already presented to Keiron. But just when they are about to escape when Keiron arrives wielding a crowbar. A fight ensues but Kelly is shocked by how far Gary is willing to go.
"It's quite clever how they went about doing this because Gary's always got a plan and it might not seem like it when we see it but he knows exactly what is going on," Mikey North, who plays Gary, told the Manchester Evening News and other press. But as Corrie fans know, and his wife Maria, Gary is a murderer after killing Rick and also making a fatal error which saw the factory roof collapse and kill Rana Habeeb.
But is he willing to kill again? Mikey told us: "It's mirroring what happened [to Rick]. It's the bad guy that's got his family or is about to get his family so I guess there is some similarities to how it was back in the day."
He added; "I think in that circumstance, Gary said himself when he confessed to Kelly's mum [Laura - played by Kel Allen] that he'd do it again [kill] in the same circumstances. He properly didn't think he had much of a choice [with Rick] and he was doing it to look after his family so given the same circumstances I think he would."
But this time might not be the time as viewers will end up seeing a shaky Kelly questions Gary about his intention to kill Kieron. Gary assures her that he was simply protecting her and there was nothing more to it. "It's bringing her closer to the truth [about Rick] and with every day that passes, she's getting closer to finding out and they're getting closer as well and it increased the jeopardy," Mikey said. "And I guess when it does come out, I'm sure it'll make interesting viewing."
But does Mikey think he character will ever pay the price for killing Rick? "I've always though that once the people linked to Rick find out, like his daughter and his wife, I guess if Kelly ever finds out [could[ she found it in her heart to forgive him. I don't think that will be possible. But who knows?"
