ITV Coronation Street's Jack P Shepherd worries fans as he shares new addition to the Platt family

Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has slightly worried, but also melted the hearts, of his social media followers as he introduced his new co-star. The actor, who plays David Platt in the ITV soap, took to Instagram to share a video of himself at his character's family home on the famous cobbles with a new addition to the Platt clan.

Jack, 34, could be seen holding a goregous terrier pup who appears to be the new 'David the Dog' on the street. Corrie fans will remember that the dog was formerly the pet of Mrs. Moss, an old lady who was a regular at David's grandmother, Audrey's, hair salon.

And when David's owner passed away, she left the dog in her will to human David, after whom he was named, along with £20,000. And David the dog has lived with the Platts at 8 Coronation Street ever since. However, he may not be seen as regularly as some would hope.

But as Jack introduced Corrie fans to the new David, some were concerned. @selinapops asked: "Wait, a new David the dog actor? What happened to the old one?" @kaffskimush echoed: "What happened to the other one??" @reeve3330 added: "Where is old David the dog?"

In response to the question, @waterlooroadextra said: "The dog sadly passed away in real life." While this wasn't confirmed by Jack himself, fans were quick to respond. @kaffskimush replied: "Thank you… I thought so and that really sad… life is poop sometimes!!" @wilkinson_1992 added: "Awww sorry for their loss."

Sharing the introductory video, Jack wrote: " First day at work. He was nervous but what a star in the making." He then added with crying laughing face emojis: "Thrilled he got the job, well done David."

In the video, Jack can be seen holding his new canine pal aloft in his arms as he says: "So this is David, the new David the dog. He is actually called David, or Dave, and is the brand new one."

He went on: "He's done his first day, two scenes. He's very tired and going to go home for some treats but he's very good. Very well behaved." As David rested his head on Jack's shoulder, the soap star spun round to show him off to the camera before cooing: "Look at him!" in a baby voice before laughing.

First in the comments was Jack's former Corrie co-star Ryan Clayton, who appeared in the soap from January to October 2018 and October 2019 to January 2020 as Josh Tucker. He said: "Hahahahaha swear you once told me you weren’t fussed about dogs," to which Jack jokingly replied: "F***ing p**s take init."
