ITV Coronation Street's Corey star Maximus Evans hints at return after award win

He left Weatherfield when he was transported straight to the police station's doors ahead of doing a runner of the murder of Seb Franklin but Corey Brent may once again tread the cobbles. The actor who played him, Maximus Evans, reunited with his Coronation Street castmates over the weekend for the British Soap Awards.

And it was completely worth it as the soap star picked up a gong at the glitzy bash, which was hosted live by Phillip Schofield on ITV. He took home the silver award after beating off some stiff competition in the Villain of the Year category. He was applauded by the rest of the Corrie cast as he headed up to collect his award.

He sat alongside the likes of Millie Gibson, who was also a big winner on the night for her portrayal of Kelly Neelan in the ITV soap, as well as former on-screen girlfriend Tanish Gorey. Maximus dedicated his award to his mum before mentioning his late Nan, saying he hoped she would be looking down on him.

And while his character may have sent to prison for a minimum of 14 years last November after he brutally murdered Seb Franklin during a horror hit crime attack on him and his girlfriend Nina Lucas, Maximus hasn't ruled out a return to the Salford-based soap.

Speaking to RadioTimes.com after picking up the award, he hinted that he'd be open to reprising the role at some point, even suggesting that he'd like to see some redemption for his character. "We don't know because I think he got put away for so many years," he told the publication.

"I think it will be a little while, I'd like it to be a while. And I think if he was to come back at any time I'd like to see him maybe rehabilitated in some sense, you don't want him to come back as a villain again – but it's up to the showrunner to decide."

As for how long it could be before Corrie fans could see him back on screen, Maximus said: "Personally I have no idea, it's kind of just on the backburner." He went on: "But I'd like to see what would possibly happen if he interacted with [ex-girlfriend] Asha again.

"I think because their relationship was so toxic at the end, rightfully so, I'd like to see if there was a possibility of maybe trying to... not to rekindle but to apologise and maybe find some sense of redemption. But I think it's going to be hard that's why it'll probably have to be a couple of years."

Back in April Maximus made a return to Manchester to reunite with some of his former co-stars. The 22-year-old actor caught up with Kelly and Asha star's Millie and Tanisha while the latter's on-screen brother Aadi Alahan, played by Adam Hussain, also joined in the catch-up over a drink in Manchester.

As for the storyline itself, for months Corrie viewers knew that the promising Weatherfield County footballer was responsible for the despicable murder of Seb Franklin. In May 2021 Corey, Kelly Neelan, and a couple of their mates set upon the builder and his girlfriend Nina Lucas in a shocking hate crime attack.

It was finally revealed during a flashback episode that Corey was responsible for the horror blows that caused Seb's fatal injuries. But at trial, Corey's dad paid off a witness and got the biggest legal support he could as he believed his son was innocent - while teenager Kelly was sentenced for murder.

Fast forward a few months and Corey finally got his comeuppance as he and his dad were attempting to do a runner after Corey's bloodstained clothes were handed into the police. But after Abi Franklin enlisted his help, Gary Windass tracked the father and son down and dropped them off at the police station.
