Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson has hit out Jedward's controversial remarks about the monarchy following the death of the Queen last Thursday.
Twins John Grimes and Edward Grimes, 30, have faced backlash online for comments they made about the royal family on Twitter in the last couple of days. In one of their remarks the twins called for the abolition of the monarchy and saying that King Charles III should "hand back" the six counties of Northern Ireland when he visits the country, writes The Mirror.
The comments were slammed and even branded "embarrassing," and one person who responded to the pair was former Corrie actor Charlie, 62 - who played Jim McDonald on the ITV soap. He replied to their tweet about Northern Ireland, which had read: "King Charles should hand back the six Irish counties on his visit to Northern Ireland. No war. Just wars. It's time".
Charlie - who's shared tweets in support of the monarchy in recent days - responded to the comment about his native Northern Ireland by writing: "Shut up y'pair of t***s." It wasn't the only tweet by the twins - who rose to fame on the X Factor in 2009 - which prompted a response from Charlie, with him replying to another one recently.
He responded to one which had read: "People in denial about Britain's Imperialist past need to get a grip. Change is hard when your education is a censored version of history". Charlie again was not interested in their opinion, writing in response to the tweet by the singers: "Oh, shut up!"
Jedward have addressed some of the backlash, including writing: "Victims of colonialism are entitled to express how they feel. Beyond all the celebratory royal posts and propaganda the majority [don't give a f***]." And although they have received criticism for their tweets, there have been a number of people who have defended them, with some agreeing over their approach to the monarchy.
One person tweeted in response to their call to abolish the monarchy: "Money used for coronations and funerals that could go to the poor. Sick of it". Such comments came following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, who died, aged 96, at Balmoral Castle on September 8. Her funeral will be on Monday (September 19).
Her eldest son - who was formerly known as Prince Charles - has since ascended to the throne, with him now King Charles III, following the death of his late mother.
