Coronation Street viewers were taken aback as they uncovered Paula Wilcox's real age.
The soap star is renowned for her role as Elaine Metcalfe in the long-running ITV show. The character has found herself in a perilous situation on the Cobbles as she has fallen for the villainous Stephen Reid.
The Weatherfield killer is continued to plan his wedding to Elaine on Wednesday's show. Elaine's son, Tim, is completely against the nuptials and shared his true thoughts on his mum's fiance at the wedding consultation in the latest episode.
Stephen's mum, Audrey Roberts, was also in attendance at the consultation and fans following the show on Twitter shared their surprise as they pointed out the small age difference between the stars who play Audrey and Elaine.
Audrey is set to be Elaine's mother in law in the show if the wedding goes ahead. However, fans took to the social media platform to point out there there is just a six year age gap between Paula, 73, and Corrie legend, Sue Nicholls, 79.
Karen said: "Woah... Audrey is going to be Elaine's mother in law. I just realised."
Samantha added: "There’s only 6 years between Audrey and Elaine (as actresses)"
In the show, Stephen encouraged Elaine to write a letter to Tim to say how much he has hurt her. However, fans following the show on Twitter are worried this will mean the end of Elaine as Stephen will use this to forge her suicide note.
Sinead said: "Just thinking out loud here but might Stephen be writing a suicide letter for Elaine?"
Eileen added: "Stephen just got Elaine to write her own suicide note."
Tracey commented: "In other words, Elaine, that's gonna be your suicide note."
