Coronation Street fans were stunned as they finally discovered who Sam Blakeman has been sending letters to. Viewers of the ITV soap have seen the youngster, played by Jude Riordan, posting handwritten notes to a mystery recipient but during Monday night's trip to Weatherfield, it was revealed that it is in fact Harvey Gaskell.
The recipient has come as a bit of a surprise as drug lord Harvey, played by Will Mellor during his stint on the cobbles last year, was the one who killed Sam's mum, Natasha Blakeman. The hairdressing tycoon was shot dead by the baddie in a case of mistaken identity.
Harvey was actually looking to get revenge on Leanne Battersby after she became a police informant in order to get Simon Barlow out of the drug gang he had got himself in to. When Harvey ended up behind bars, he plotted his escape during a frightening Halloween on the cobbles.

But when both Leanne and Natasha both dressed as Morticia Adams for Sam's benefit, it was Natasha who was killed in cold blood as she popped back to Leanne and Nick Tilsley's flat. There were heartbreaking scenes when Sam was told his mum had died in hospital, despite speaking to her before she underwent an operation to stop internal bleeding.
As Sam, who made his Weatherfield debut in 2020, and Nick waited for her to come out of theatre, Sam collected gifts for his mum and wrote her a card. But he was soon told by a caring nurse that they did everything they could, but Natasha had died. Later, after Sam paid his mum a visit in the funeral home, the schoolboy stopped talking.
It was months before Sam was brought back out of his shell thanks to the help of Corrie icon Roy Cropper, played by David Neilson, who got him interested in playing chess.
So Sam's pen pal did come as a surprise to Corrie viewers. @Dee_Cee95x tweeted: "Me thinking Sam was writing to a girl he fancied to find out he’s actually sending letters to Harvey #Corrie," alongside a sweary clip. @leahallen77 wrote: "Noooo Sam #Corrie," alongside crying faces and broken heart emojis.
@floweroflondon shared: "Harvey. He's writing to Harvey. #Corrie." @VampLover27 commented: "Omg Sam’s writing to Harvey #Corrie." @LoveRealityTV4 added following another surprise with returnee Spider Nugent : "OMG SAM IS WRITING TO HARVEY AND SPIDER IS A COP WTF #Corrie."
Some had already speculated that Sam could be writing Harvey to get some answers over his mum's death while other Corrie fans thought he could have been trying to contact Natasha's family.
There were also rumours that Will would be returning to the ITV soap as Harvey, however, one Corrie fan couldn't help but make a joke about what the former Hollyoaks and Two Pints of Lager actor has ahead of him this autumn.
@Samanth22356123 tweeted: "Sam will have to wait a while for a reply from Harvey… he’s too busy dancing now!! #Corrie," referring to the fact that Will is one of 15 celebrities signed up to strut their stuff on this year's Strictly Come Dancing.
