ITV Coronation Street fans issue plea and think they've spotted legal blunder after being shocked by 'disgraceful' scenes

Coronation Street fans have been left issuing a plea to Dasiy Midgeley after they were left upset by recent scenes. During Wednesday night's trip to the cobbles, viewers of the ITV soap saw the Rovers Return barmaid continuing to be bombarded with messages from stalker Justin.

And it is becoming clear how his constant harassment is impacting her after she was left feeling uneasy at the arrival of a man who was set to help her organise the food and cake for her upcoming wedding to Daniel Osbourne. Daisy told him that she thought a woman was coming to talk them and he explained he'd been sent instead as his colleague was tied up.

Daisy sat through the consultation but appeared withdrawn and emotional as she was helped along by former step-mother Jenny Connor. Later, back at home which is now No.1 Coronation Street with Danie's family, an emotional Daisy showed her fiancé the messages and he was left concerned as Justin appeared to send a death threat.

Daniel insisted they were going straight to the police station as he wasn't taking any chances after Justin's sinister message. However, upon speaking to PC Scott at the station, the police officer played down Justin's terrifying behaviour, describing his actions as a 'crush' and suggesting it was no surprise as Daisy was a 'pretty' woman.

After Daisy dredged over her ordeal once more, PC Scott said he would fill out a report but: "Until he [Justin] commits a crime, there is nothing more we can do!" And things went from bad to worse at the end of the episode as Daisy's phone pinged and she thought it was Justin.

However, she was horrified to discover that it was instead PC Scott liking all of her past holiday snaps. Feeling hopeless, Daisy told an equally horrified Daniel: "This just gets worse and worse..." And Corrie fans quickly flocked to social media to share their own disgust and also shared how their lack of help will lead to a reported twist in the storyline when Daisy is the victim of an acid attack.

@mikepriestley13 tweeted: "The police action took after daisy's complaint is disgusting.. so the police are saying till Justin starts hitting her or actually throws acid which he does the police will do something. Bit late then isn’t it. Appalling from the police #Corrie." @suzysasha wrote: "#Corrie Unbelievable that the police can't do anything for Daisy. There has to some kind of law brought in to deal with these saddos."

@pam_debeauvoir said: "Police, please take Daisy seriously. Awful response has steam coming out my ears #Corrie." Sharon Ambrose wrote on Facebook: "Given the extent of women being harassed or stalked today and the police not protecting us!!! Then the policeman's attitude to Daisy was beyond belief. She's just pretty!! I'm hoping this storyline doesn't go on and on like the Stephen scenario."

Others wondered if there was a legal blunder involved in the scenes after not being able to believe that what Justin was doing to Daisy wasn't against the law. Harassment and stalking are classed as offences under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and (where the offending is racially or religiously aggravated) the Crime and Disorder Act 1998. Both offences relate to behaviour that is repeated and unwanted.

Meanwhile, some are pleading with Daisy to change her number in a bid to combat Justin's contact. Cynthia Mcbean wrote on Facebook: "Why doesn't she change her number, she says she needs to keep number for work there's only Jenny." Kay Rowe said: "For goodness sake Daisy change your number."

@Firefly070 tweeted: "Just change your mobile number Daisy #corrie." @TJScaverton added: "Daisy… please just get a new phone number #Corrie."

Corrie has been working with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, which was founded in 1986 and is the largest specialist personal safety and stalking organisation of its kind worldwide, on the storyline in which Justin is defined as An Intimacy Seeking Stalke, one which arises out of a context of loneliness and whose motivation is to establish an emotional connection, intimate and loving relationship with the victim.
