Coronation Street fans said they had 'so many questions' after watching Alya Nazir nearly get killed in a bomb explosion. Viewers of the ITV soap knew that Griff and his extremist gang had been planning something dreadful way before groomed protege Max Turner found himself caught up in a test of the explosive.
For months now Griff has been targeting Alya and her new Speed Daal waiter Daryan and clashing with councilor Maria Windass over her refugee project. He has also roped Max in to help with their propaganda videos but buying him a new top-quality laptop for all his editing.
And scenes aired last month showed just how dangerous Griff was as Max found himself in the hospital after the gang leader took his cronies - including undercover cop Spider Nugent - on a camping trip. Later, as they traveled down a road in the middle of nowhere, Max, who was sat in the back of the car, was caught in the crossfire when the bomb suddenly exploded.
He luckily survived but it wasn't enough for him to realise what Griff was really like. The impressionable teen continued to stick with his new 'mates', even when they attacked Spider after they discovered he was a grass. But Max finally came through, with the help of Lauren, when they realised something bad was going to happen.
He pleaded with Alya and Yasmeen to listen to his warnings and after admitting to seeing the Speed Dahl van out on some wasteland before appearing back on the street ahead of Maria's peace markets opening, the pair decided to listen and checked the van. They couldn't see anything until Alya climbed up into the driver's seat and had a look around.
She spotted an exposed wire and after giving it a slight tug, a timer dropped from the glovebox and they quickly realised the van was minutes away from exploding. Fearing what was about to happen, instead of waiting for the police like her grandmother begged, Alys decided to jump in the car and drive off, hoping she could get the van to where less people were at risk of getting hurt before the timer ticked down.
And it was extremely close as she arrived at an area of wasteland with just seconds to spare. Alya was later seen lying on the floor with viewers unsure whether she would survive. However, she soon arrived home to her worried gran in a state of agony and shock before getting checked out at the hospital.
But as they watched at home, Corrie fans couldn't help but point out issues with Alya's decisions and other moments in the hour-long episode. @benryan8792 tweeted: "#Corrie #ITV1 Why, oh why? At 17 seconds prior to detonation, she might as well practiced her parallel parking. Big storyline too, it’s just unbelievable." @Dino_0910 posted: "Based on tonight’s showing i wouldn’t be hiring Alya for a bomb squad anytime soon. FFS just get out the car 20 seconds before the timer runs out and start running. Good drama and explosion special effects though #Corrie."
@marcjohnson27 asked: "1. Why did she keep driving when she was already in the middle of nowhere when the timer was on 30 seconds 2. How did the whole street hear a van explode when she’d been driving it away full speed for 10 minutes? #Corrie." @Pickitflickit shared: "You’re driving a van with a bomb. You look at the countdown, it says 18 seconds and you keep driving??Ridiculous! #Corrie." @Ben6987 added: "Please Corrie the explosion Ayla had 2 seconds before it went off and now she’s alive and walking it’s all but to much to believe #corrie."
@andyroe67 also said: "So many questions tonight. 1. Why drive a van with a bomb in it and watch the timer go zero, surely you'd jump out with 20 seconds to go and run 2. How come the teacher had keys to the classroom in her pocket, and where was a Senior member of staff? 3. Is Jacob really that naive, not 2 minutes ago he was dealing drugs 4. Spider wakes up from beain surgery and immediately has a full blown conversion with Toyah."
