ITV Coronation Street fans grow frustrated as they're left baffled by Spider Nugent's role in extremist gang

Coronation Street fans have made their feelings clear about its current major storyline. Last month it was revealed by the ITV soap that Max Turner would find himself being groomed into joining an extremist gang and ultimately putting his own life and that of his friends and family in danger.

It started when Peter Barlow confronted eco-activist Griff and his mates when he discovered the band they have invited him to see are playing racist songs. Toyah Habeeb also tackles Spider Nugent about the company he is keeping, unaware that he is an undercover cop who has infiltrated the gang to expose their activity.

Later, Griff, played by Michael Condron, turned his attention to troubled Max, who had been the victim of persistent school bullies since losing his place at Weatherfield High while also being mad at his family for accusing him of being Maria Windass' troll and turning him into the police.

Griff stepped in and threatens to teach the bullies a lesson and in doing so wins Max's trust and it wasn't long before he was being invited to join him and his mates at his flat. Corrie said at the time that in the coming months, viewers will see Max becoms more estranged from his family as the teenager falls under the spell of Griff who uses Max’s video and computer skills to spread their racist propaganda.

And more of that was seen in the latest trip to the cobbles on Wednesday night (November 16). Expecting a meeting about the environment, Roy and his Weatherfield neighbours Brian Packham and Gary and Maria Windass joined the audience in the community centre. But as eco-warrior Griff began his address, his true racist agenda became clear.

It comes after he was accused of racism by Alya Nazir and later, after Griff rounded up his cronies to gang up on Alya, it was newcomer Daryan who was chased and physically attacked by the masked group as he left Speed Daal where he recently picked up a job alongside Max, until he was pulled into Griff's murky world.

Griff ended up being left gobsmacked when Roy picked apart his argument by pointing out numerous factual errors in his speech, which was filmed by his new protege Max. Later, David Platt read his son Max the riot act for skipping school to mix with Griff and demanded it stopped now. Max slammed out of the house and at Griff’s flat, Max showed him an edited film of the meeting in his favour.

With fears now growing for Roy for standing up to the vile eco-warrior, other Corrie viewers have been left questioning Spider Nugent, who was back on the scene when he heard Griff and his mate had been arrested following the meeting after Daryan went to the police about his attack.

It also comes after he helped the gang with an attack on Speed Daal and watched poor Daryan be jumped. @pam_debeauvoir tweeted: "How much more evidence does Spider the undercover cop need #Corrie." @chippytea_ replied: "I'm confused about how far it needs to go for the police to actually do anything here?"

@Dee_Cee95x commented: "Surely Spider has enough evidence now to pass this onto the police? Rather than throwing paint at Speed Daal and watching them jump Daryan? #Corrie." @mishybabez_ wrote: "Of course max gave griff an alibi. Spider is the worst undercover detective ever! #Corrie." @pockbear asked: "#Corrie is spider going to do something at any point or??" @AndreaMandula added: "I'm sure spider must have enough ammo on Griff now just put your phone on record mate #Corrie."

Meanwhile others think he is on the brink of being caught out due to his 'shady' behaviour and suspicion from Griff. The Talk of the Street, @corriepodcast, said: "Poor DC Spider looks like he missed the How to Not Look and Sound Shifty AF training seminar with the old bill. #corrie." @DionPetrie tweeted: "I’m not surprised they are suspecting Spider of something he doesn’t hide it well #Corrie." @stuartctaylor added: "Spider doesn't have the most subtle of acting styles, does he? #Corrie."
