ITV Coronation Street Daniel Osbourne's Emmerdale past, co-star ex and health battle

Daniel Osbourne is one of Coronation Street's most renowned figures.

The character is the son of Ken Barlow and was first welcomed to Weatherfield in 1995, before he departed with his mum, Denise Osbourne, just two years later.

He returned to the Cobbles for a brief storyline in 2007 and eventually became a series regular in 2016 after Ken suffered a stroke.

Daniel has been played by Rob Mallard since becoming a Coronation Street mainstay, who has portrayed the character through some of Weatherfield's most dramatic storylines.

The school-teacher has endured a turbulent year on Corrie after Max Turner broke into his home and accidentally smashed a clay imprint from his dead wife, Sinead Tinker.

Daniel is currently involved in a dramatic love triangle with Daisy Midgely and Nicky Wheatley after the former sex worker returned to Weatherfield this week.

Although Rob is most famous for his role as Daniel Osbourne, the actor is no stranger to the world of soaps as he enjoyed a brief stint in Emmerdale as Connor Jenson in 2015.

The actor also appeared in Channel 4 comedy, Fresh Meat, in 2016 and was delighted as he joined the cast of Coronation Street in the same year.

He said: "It feels great to be starting work on Coronation Street and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone. I grew up watching Coronation Street, so the chance to be in it, especially playing a part like Daniel, is very exciting."

Away from the screen, Rob was involved in a relationship with co-star Daniel Brocklebank, who plays vicar Billy Mayhew.

The soap stars dated in 2017 and made their red carpet debut together at the British LGBT awards.

Rob won the Best Newcomer prize at the British Soap Awards that year - and said his co-star was "the best thing I've taken home this year".

However, the couple split two months after going public with their relationship.

Rob spoke publicly about his sexuality during an interview with the Gay Times in 2017.

He said: "‘I never planned to keep it quiet that I was gay.

"The only concern I had at first was if I’m with a female character, will an audience who knows I’m gay in real life believe it?

"But that was just my own fears because I do believe they will."

Rob later dated Ben Perryman, but confirmed the couple had split in 2020 after things reached their "natural end".

The 29-year-old appeared on This Morning this week and was applauded after he opened up on his battle with essential tremors.

The neurological disorder is often confused with Parkinson's disease and causes parts of the body to shake.

March is National Essential Tremor Awareness Month and Rob revealed he was first diagnosed with the condition when he was 14.

He said: "I didn't quite realise how serious it was until I was in my mid-20s.

"You assume with shaking that it's an old person thing, but it's actually amazingly common in young people.

"It's often misdiagnosed as anxiety disorders or people on the street might think you're on the comedown or withdrawing from something. What it actually is is brain chemistry."

The soap star urged people to visit the National Tremor Foundation's official website for further details if they think they may be suffering with the condition.

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV and ITV Hub
