A past Coronation Street character is set for a return of sorts as Jack Webster discovers the upsetting truth. This week the 12-year-old, played by Kyran Bowes, will find out more about his mum, Molly, and his arrival into the world.
Back in March, Corrie fans called out Jack's dad, Kevin Webster, for his 'double standards' when he struggled to forgive new wife Abi Franklin for cheating on him before giving birth to a surprise baby, since named Alfie. The labour shock on the ITV soap came amid a drug and booze bender after Kevin walked out on her after he discovered she'd had a one-night stand before they tied the knot.
Later, after visiting the hospital while Alfie was still in ICU at the time, Abi mistakinly thought Kevin wanted to give things another go which backfired. But Corrie fans were quick to call out Kevin over his 'double standards' as he himself has a track record for being a love cheat.
As they rightly remember, mechanic Kevin had an affair with colleague and neighbour Tyrone Dobbs' late partner Molly while he was married to Sally Metcalfe, which resulted in Molly giving birth to his Jack. But Molly tragically died on the cobbles in 2010, with Tyrone believing Jack to be his.
She lost her life after she and her son became trapped in the shop following the street's horror tram crash. As Jack was rushed to hospital, Sally waited with Molly as emergency services attempted to free her. It is then that the truth came out as during her final moments, she revealed to Sally that Kevin is Jack’s father.
In scenes to air on the ITV soap on Friday (June 17), Debbie Webster will be seen imploring her brother Kevin to think carefully before taking on Alfie when Jack overhears how Kevin had an affair with Molly behind Tyrone’s back, resulting in his birth. Jack struggles to take it all in but wishes Abi and Kevin good luck at the hearing.
In the court waiting room, Abi slags off the judicial system to a woman nearby. With the custody hearing about to start, the Judge takes her seat. And Abi’s horrified to realise it’s the woman she met in the waiting room - Wendy Crozier. Believing she’s ruined any chance she had, Abi listens as the local authority solicitor lists her failings as a mother and recommends that Alfie remain in care.
The Judge orders that Alfie be placed with Abi in a mother and baby foster facility where she will be assessed. Abi’s introduced to Wendy Papadapoulos, their foster carer. When Abi reveals she’s from Coronation Street, Wendy keeps her counsel. Wendy, played by Roberta Kerr, is making a comeback to the cobbles after more than a decade away from Weatherfield.
Wendy, a former Weatherfield Council secretary, famously had an affair with Ken Barlow in 1989 leading to his first divorce from his wife Deirdre. In 2012, then a widowed governor at Bessie Street School, she attempted to rekindle her romance with Ken but he rejected her.
