ITV confirms I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! will return to Australia for 2022

ITV bosses have confirmed that popular programme I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! will return to Australia in 2022. For the last two years, the show has been filmed at Gwrych Castle, North Wales as a result of travel restrictions.

But this year's celebrity cohort will be jetted Down Under in November, alongside Geordie presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly. Rosemary Newell, Director of Content at ITV, confirmed the move to The Mirror.

"We expect I'm a Celebrity to return in Australia in November, when it will generate audience over 11 million," Newell said.

Although the show being filmed at Gwrych Castle was deemed to be much safer than flying contestants out to Australia, a lot of fans have claimed that they enjoyed the show more when it was filmed Down Under. This move will surely delight a lot of viewers, and they won't be the only ones celebrating the news.

Ant and Dec have hinted over the course of the pandemic that they would love for filming to take place in Australia again. However, they did make it clear that this was not an anti-Welsh sentiment.

In an appearance on The One Show earlier this year, Ant said: "Well, the plan is the jungle, so if all things..." before Dec Donnelly interrupted to say: "Nothing against Wales!"

Ant then explained: "We love Wales but you know, Australia is its home and we’d like to get back there if we can," with Dec adding: "That’s what we’re hoping, touch wood."

During the 2021 series, bad weather meant that the show was taken off air for a few days. In a show first, all campmates were removed from the castle for safety reasons.

Dec has confessed that filming the show in Wales is not 'quite the same' as filming it in sunny Australia, saying that the latter was its 'spiritual home'.

"It wasn’t quite the same, but we had a great time in North Wales. They made us feel so welcome. I’m A Celebrity’s spiritual home is Australia," he explained to Lorraine recently.

The daytime TV show host: "It was still a cracker, but it would be lovely to see you in Australia, so you can top up your tan."

"We can torment them a bit more in Australia as well," Dec then added.
