ITV confirms Britain's Got Talent's is back after two-year absence

Britain's Got Talent is returning to our screens after a two-year absence with ITV teasing its homecoming with a trailer. The talent show was forced off air for two years due to the pandemic but the audition phase has already been filmed and ITV has confirmed that it will return in April.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both 46, will return as hosts, with David Walliams, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell back in their roles as judges. A spot at the Royal Variety Performance remains up for grabs for the thousands of hopefuls aiming to wow the judges.

McPartlin and Holden both admitted they were tearful following their reunion at the resumed recording of the show. McPartlin told the live audience: "Excuse me while I go and cry. We are so excited to be back. We were gutted to miss last year and not get to see you all. But we’re back, raring to go and have one hell of a show for you."

Holden said at the time: "Do you know what, I have to say, I cried. I mean it was so lovely to see everybody but when we walked into the theatre and actually had an audience, a proper audience."

The talent show has yielded plenty of success since Paul Potts won the first series in 2007, including dance troupe Diversity two years later, Lost Voice Guy – real name Lee Ridley – in 2018 and duo Ashleigh and her dog Pudsey among others. But perhaps BGT's most famous success story was that of a non-winner – singer Susan Boyle entered the competition in 2009 and came second to Diversity, but has enjoyed global success since and has released seven albums.
