It's been another incredible year for filming in Liverpool, with a number of new productions coming to our screens soon.
The city has doubled as Philadelphia and East London as pubs, cafes and entire streets were taken back in time. Film crews were seen shooting scenes in Anfield, the Georgian Quarter, and in other parts of the region including Prescot and Bebington.
Samuel L Jackson, Olivia Coleman and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke were among the stars who flocked to the region for filming of a new Marvel mini-series. Here the ECHO takes a look at some of the productions that have been filmed on Merseyside this year that are coming to our screens in 2023.

Sexy Beast
Liverpool city centre was transformed into East London for the prequel of the iconic 2000 film Sexy Beast.
Cast and crew were spotted in Rumford Street and Water Street in the city centre at the end of August. In Anfield, Jumbo Cafe became "Copper Grill", while Bingley Road's street sign was changed to Strawberry Lane, with "E1" and "London Borough of Hackney" written on it.
As The Cross Keys on Earle Street became "The Golden Eagle" in November, film star James McArdle was spotted in action for his role as Gal Dove. Vintage cars and period costumes also took over Castle Street as passersby gathered round to get a glimpse of the action.
The new series tells the story of the characters of the original Sexy Beast film which starred Ben Kingsley, Ian McShane, Amanda Redman and Ray Winstone, and how they found themselves central to London's criminal underbelly.
Sexy Beast will be released on new streaming service Paramount+ in 2023.
Marvel's Secret Invasion
Hollywood star Samuel L Jackson was spotted in Liverpool back in February while filming for a new Marvel mini-series.
Jackson stopped to pose for a picture with a fan outside the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall during a break in his busy schedule. He visited the region for filming of the upcoming Marvel mini-series Secret Invasion, which involves the infiltration of Earth by shapeshifting aliens, the Skrulls.
Oscar award-winning actress Olivia Coleman and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke were also spotted on set earlier this year. During her time in Merseyside, Emilia Clarke took to Instagram to share a snap at Crosby Beach with her arms wrapped around one of Anthony Gormley's iconic Iron Men.
The ECHO understands filming for the Marvel mini-series has also taken place on the site of the former Pilkington's Glass factory in Alexandra Park, St Helens, although official details of the shoot were wrapped in secrecy.
Marvel's Secret Invasion will be released in early 2023
Outlander
The city's Georgian Quarter was taken back to the 1770s for filming of a hit ITV show.
Canning Street doubled as Philadelphia for the filming of the seventh season of Outlander. The series focuses on a military nurse in Scotland, who in 1945, finds herself transported back in time to 1743.
Left Bank Pictures Ltd (LBP) wrote to residents laying out plans to transform the city centre street back to the eighteenth century. Sections of the road were closed for up to a week as camera crews descended on the area.
Actors could be seen wearing period costumes and horses and carriages were transported through the area.
Outlander is set to air in May 2023.
The Family Pile
A former Wirral high school was transformed for filming of The Family Pile.
The Family Pile is a new ITV prime-time comedy set and filmed in the city. It tells the story of four sisters who have lost their parents and are packing up the family home to sell, but even in grief their messy lives go on.
Producers created a full-size family home inside the now derelict Pensby High School for Boys in Wirral, which closed and merged with Pensby High School for Girls in 2015. Other filming locations for the six-part series include Crosby and Bebington.
The new series was written by Liverpool-born Brian Dooley and produced by Hat Trick Productions, known for producing the hit comedy series Derry Girls.
The Family Pile is executive produced by Angela Sinden alongside Walton-born Jimmy Mulville, with investment from Liverpool Film Office’s Film and TV Production Fund.
It will air on ITV sometime in 2023.
The Tower
Liverpool's Hilton Hotel is set to star in the second series of The Tower.
The three-part drama is based on former Metropolitan Police officer Kate London’s series of novels from her time in the police force. Viewers were hooked when the first series came to our screens last November as Killing Eve's Gemma Whelan and Emmett J. Scanlan investigated the deaths of two people who had fallen from a tower block.
Camera crews returned to the city centre this July to film scenes for the second series inside the Hilton Hotel. Actors were also seen filming scenes in Beaconsfield, Prescot, as locals headed out to get a glimpse of the action
The first series of the drama was also filmed in areas of Merseyside and Cheshire including on a Merseyrail train parked on a Wirral industrial site and at Runcorn Cemetery.
The second series - The Tower II: Death Message - is based on Kate London’s second novel, with Tahirah Shariff as PC Lizzie Adama starring alongside Gemma Whelan, Emmett J Scanlan as DI Kieran Shaw and Jimmy Akingbola as DC Steve Bradshaw.
A release date for The Tower is yet to be confirmed but it's expected to be sometime in 2023.
