Italy is currently facing a significant transportation infrastructure crisis, with various modes of transport being affected by a widespread outage. In Genoa, the Port of Pra is experiencing delays as long-haul trucks are lined up for nearly 20 kilometers due to a malfunction in the automated gate system caused by the tech outage.
Meanwhile, in Florence, both Trenitalia and Italo train networks have been suspended after their systems went offline. Passengers on these trains have been enduring extreme heat and delays of up to 140 minutes, with some even calling emergency services to be let off the trains. Rural rail lines have also been impacted, with trains being stopped due to the extreme heat.
Italy's financial sector has also been affected, with Milan's FTSE MIB stock market confirming its inability to update figures during this time.
Although major airports in Rome, Bologna, Milan, and Palermo have not reported any infrastructure problems, they are facing significant delays in takeoff and landing schedules due to other issues.
Autogrill, Italy's autostrada highway service, experienced malfunctions but managed to switch to manual systems for petrol and other services to continue operations. The country's highway toll system, particularly the automated Telepass lanes, also faced delays due to issues with card readers tied to an international network.
