David Koma is really leaving his mark on the industry. First came a striking Lourdes Leon-led Resort 2025 advertising campaign. Then came his brand new swimwear and lifestyle line appropriately titled LET'S SWIM. Now the Georgian-born designer has added another thing to his plate by becoming Blumarine's new creative director.
As you'll recall, there was some recent drama associated with the Italian fashion house. After Nicola Brognano left the creative director role, Walter Chiapponi was chosen to lead the increasingly popular label. Then came word that Chiapponi was out only a few weeks after presenting his debut collection. With so many designers between houses right now, it became a guessing game regarding which designer would take over which house.
We really didn't see Blumarine x Koma coming. Although we have to admit we're intrigued. It kind of makes sense, actually. Koma will bring plenty of attitude to the brand that has helped bring back the Y2K aesthetic. We'll have to wait a little while to see what Koma's vision is since his first Blumarine collection will be for the Pre-Fall 2025 season.
