'It will be difficult' - Ralf Rangnick confirms Manchester United injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick has ruled out defender Luke Shaw for the remainder of the season, ahead of the Premier League clash against Liverpool on Tuesday.

The left back was forced off with an ankle problem at half time in United's 1-1 draw against Leicester earlier this month. He hasn't featured since and it appears the injury will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the campaign.

Rangnick's side take on Norwich City on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League, before they face Liverpool on Tuesday. He'll be without five players, including Shaw.

The interim boss told reporters on Friday: “Luke Shaw, we had his bolts and metal stuff removed from his leg. As it seems, he will be out for at least another four weeks, if not five weeks.

“I think for him it will be difficult to be available for one of the outstanding remaining seven games."

Fred will also be absent this weekend, as will Scott McTominay, Raphael Varane and Edinson Cavani. Although, it's yet to be confirmed whether they'll be fit in time for Tuesday's clash at Anfield.

Shaw was part of the team beaten 5-0 by the Reds at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign and Liverpool will hope for a similar victory this time around as they continue their hunt for the Premier League title.

For Jurgen Klopp 's side, however, they must first navigate a crucial FA Cup semi-final clash at Wembley against rivals Manchester City in a bid to book themselves a spot in their second final this season.
