'It was just a normal night' - Two men wielding machetes burst into rural Irish pub

Two machete wielding raiders terrorised staff and customers in a Co Meath pub before making off with a substantial amount of money last night.

There were six customers on the premises when two balaclaved men wielding machetes burst through the door of the Kilberry pub on the Navan to Kingscourt road shortly before 11pm.

The raiders demanded that all customers and staff handed over their mobile phones to prevent them from contacting the Gardai before making off with an amount of cash.

One eye witness revealed: "It was just a normal Monday night with a few locals in when the doors flew open and two guys burst in.

"They were carrying machetes and were very aggressive. They demanded everyone leave their phones where they could see them and when they got cash they left.

"It was over in minutes so none of us had time to be scared but it wasn't a nice experience and everyone was kind of shaken up after it.

"Nobody had a chance to try and get the weapons off them it happened that quickly."

The pub was open as normal today but the restaurant area remained closed as Gardaí continue to investigate the robbery.

Gardaí have since launched an investigation and are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Navan Garda Station.
