"It seemed really serious" - Large police presence including tactical aid unit and forensics in Royton

A large police presence, including forensics officers, the tactical aid unit and the specialist search unit, were at a property in Royton this evening for at least five hours.

One shocked neighbour described how the scene was “the biggest police response” to an incident she had seen in a long time.

Officers reportedly attended the scene, at a ground floor flat at Arden House apartments, off Shaw Street in Royton, at around 5pm on Wednesday evening.

Police have not confirmed the nature of the investigation, but residents living in the block spoke of frequent drug related incidents on the estate.

At least five police vehicles remained at the scene until around 11pm this evening.

Forensics officers in white overalls were seen outside the property. Police vans, forensics vans and a 'specialist search unit' vehicle were also seen nearby.

One concerned resident told the M.E.N: “This used to be a quiet estate. My family have lived here for years and it used to be mainly elderly residents.

“Over the past few years, younger people have moved in and it’s gotten a reputation for drug related issues.

“There have been drug raids in the past and this seemed to be just another one at first so we didn’t think much of it.

“I know a lot of drug dealing goes on as cars always pull up to the estate. We heard there were weapons in there too.

“But then more and more police showed up and it seemed really serious. They have been here going In and out of the flat for hours.”

The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police but has not received a response.
