‘It’s the culture’ - Jack Grealish reveals Manchester United ace Luke Shaw’s Man City confession

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has noted how it is easy to spot who the Manchester City players are in the England squad due to their obsession with football.

Blues outnumber Reds stars in the Three Lions’ World Cup squad by five to three, although the cross-city rivalry has seemingly not got in the way of friendship between the two groups. Shaw and Jack Grealish are two players who seem to get on well, so much so that the United left-back made a notable confession to his teammate.

Grealish has revealed how Shaw had handed the City players in the squad a compliment by noticing a key attitude in their mindset that differentiated them from those from other clubs. “Luke Shaw said to me, 'when I come away with England you can tell who the City lads are',” the Blues playmaker said, as per the Express.

“I said, ‘What do you mean?’ He said, ‘You always have a ball, you always want a ball.’ It’s true. Me, even Kyle [Walker], Phil [Foden] - we’re just always wanting a ball, whether it be back home, at the camp, or here.

“Lads will just be doing stretches and that, getting ready for training or playing basketball and me and Phil will just be playing two-touch. We get that from being at City.”

Grealish outlined how this way of thinking was different to what was present at former club Aston Villa. He added: “At Villa, they’d be sitting there on their phones.

“Whereas at City, you’re sitting there and balls are going flying across the changing room. It’s people playing two-touch. I think it’s the culture at City, where everyone just loves to have a football and we bring that here.”

Two City players in Foden and Grealish have got on the scoresheet for England at the World Cup, but it’s United striker Marcus Rashford who leads the scoring chart with three goals.

His brace helped England to a 3-0 win over Wales on Tuesday to see the team top Group B and set up a last-16 tie with African champions Senegal on Sunday.
