'It's obvious' - El Hadji Diouf sends message to Liverpool over Mohamed Salah contract

Former Liverpool winger El Hadji Diouf has urged the club to accept Mohamed Salah's wage demands and agree a new deal with the Egyptian.

Salah's current contract expires in 2023 and so far no agreement has been reached between Liverpool and the player to extend his stay beyond next summer. Negotiations have been drawn out and links with clubs across Europe, including Juventus, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, are starting to emerge.

Diouf, who made 80 appearances and scored six goals for the Reds between 2002 and 2005, has warned Salah he will "have to start all over again" if he was to join another European heavyweight at this stage of his career.

“It is obvious that Liverpool must accept Salah’s demands," Diouf told beIN SPORTS.

“If I were Salah, I would stay at Liverpool, he can earn more money, he is the best player at the club along with (Sadio) Mane, and with him together they will win a lot of trophies. He is 29-years-old, and I ask him to play four more years with the Reds.

“A transfer to Real Madrid would mean that he would have to start all over again."

Salah is having one of his best ever seasons at Anfield with 28 goals in all competitions so far. He comfortably leads the Premier League's goalscoring charts with 20 to his name, followed by Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-Min and Reds team-mate Diogo Jota with 13.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has previously called for patience, as he told reporters earlier this month: "Mo expects this club to be ambitious. We cannot do much more. It is Mo's decision.

"It is all fine from my point of view. Nothing happened further, no signing or rejection. We just have to wait, there's no rush."
