'It's meant to be' - Man City fans make Sergio Aguero comparison after Julian Alvarez signing

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Argentina international Julian Alvarez.

The 22-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on transfer deadline day, will return to the Argentinian champions River Plate on loan - where he helped them to their first domestic title in seven years - until at least the end of the season.

Alvarez has put pen to paper on a five-and-a-half-year deal with the Blues after 36 goals and 25 assists in 96 River Plate appearances after making his debut in 2018.

After the long-awaited announcement, City fans couldn't contain their excitement, likening their new Argentinian forward to their legendary goalscorer and former Argentina international Sergio Aguero.

On the deal, Director of Football Txiki Begiristain said: "Julian is a player we have monitored for some time.

"He is capable of operating in a number of attacking roles, and we firmly believe he's one of the best young attacking players in South America.

"I am so happy we have managed to bring him to Manchester City. I really believe we can provide him with the right conditions to fulfil his potential and become a top player."
