"It's crazy" - Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he's "never had a player" like Luis Diaz

Jurgen Klopp has admitted that he has "never had a player" like Luis Diaz after the £50million signing's strong start to life at Liverpool.

Diaz shone in his first two appearances for the Reds, having joined from Porto on the eve of transfer deadline day.

And ahead of the first leg of Liverpool's Champions League round-of-16 clash with Inter Milan on Wednesday, Klopp has heaped praise on the 25-year-old.

"Luis is a top boy, a top class player," the Reds boss said in his pre-match news conference. "He showed that already in two appearances he had for us.

"Last game he didn’t come on. He is a new player, we have to get used to new things in a team, we have all other players fit and they know exactly what I want from them.

"We give Luis a little bit more time to adapt to it. He is an incredible player, his joy and love for football is so obvious.

"When you see him training, he cannot stop smiling. I have never had a player like this. It's crazy. We are so, so happy to have him here. It's absolutely great.

"We expect a lot from him in the future. Now already but in the future as well. I have a good feeling it will be a really nice story with Luis at Liverpool."

Despite his bright start, Diaz was dropped to the bench for Sunday's 1-0 victory over Burnley in the Premier League, with Sadio Mane getting the nod instead.

While fans were disappointed not to see the winger at Turf Moor, Klopp explained his thinking post-match by saying: "Luis, he adapted really well but this is a completely different game; a real, 'Welcome to the Premier League'.

"We didn't want to try it if we didn't need it, so that's why we started like we started and Sadio did really well. He worked incredibly hard and that's exactly what we expect."

Now Diaz will be hoping show his class on the European stage, having already impressed against Liverpool in the group phase during his final months as a Porto player.

But it will not be easy for the Colombian against what Klopp has hailed as a "top-class team" in Inter.

"With respect for other teams, I think they are the best in Italy again this year," the Reds manager added. "We need to show a top-class performance to even have a chance but why shouldn't we try? There are a lot of talks about reforms in the Champions League.

"You have Man City v Sporting Lisbon and PSG v Real Madrid in the first games of the round, our game in the second day, that is massive, that is proper European football royalty and we are looking forward to it.

"I don't think history will be decisive in this game. I don't believe in these types of things. I think you can use history but you don't have to suffer from it. It is not our history and other things have happened.

"We just know we are facing an incredibly strong team and that is enough."
