It's Back: Porsche is Reportedly Developing a New Dakar

The jacked-up Porsche 911 Dakar wasn't around for long, with the final model rolling off the assembly line in November. We thought that was the end of the model, with Porsche only building 2,500 examples. However, it appears the company isn't done with the 911 Dakar model yet. A new report alleges that the automaker will launch a new Dakar model before the end of the year, and it'll have a hybrid powertrain.

According to Autocar, "senior sources" said that Porsche is developing an upgraded version of the Dakar that'll get the automaker's new T-Hybrid powertrain that's in the 2025 911 GTS. The setup pairs a turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six engine and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with a traction motor sandwiched between them.

The setup makes a combined 532 horsepower and 449 pound-feet of torque, more than the 475-horsepower, twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six engine that powers the first Dakar models. The extra power should shorten the Dakar's 3.4-second 0-60 time. The new GTS can hit 60 in 2.9 seconds.

Porsche is allegedly developing the new Dakar in its Weissach engineering center. According to Autocar, Porsche is tentatively planning to launch the model at the end of the year. A Porsche spokesperson told the publication that the company doesn't "comment on speculation."

Looks like we'll have to wait to learn more. Porsche's CEO hinted in 2022 that the company could make additional off-road 911 models if there was enough demand for the Dakar.
