'It's always easier' - Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst makes Liverpool claim before Champions League clash

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has challenged his Rangers side to be brave when they host "world class" Liverpool at Ibrox in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

And the Dutch coach believes his players have what it takes to pull off an upset in Scotland and revive their Group A hopes against Jurgen Klopp's out-of-sorts team.

Liverpool head to Glasgow for just the second competitive meeting between the two giants of British football on the back of a 2-0 win at Anfield last week in the European Cup.

However, a frustrating domestic campaign in the Premier League sees Klopp's men 14 points behind leaders Arsenal and closer to the relegation zone than the top spot.

Despite their visitors' current form, though, Van Bronckhorst says he is under no illusions about the overall quality of Liverpool, once again pointing to their run of three final appearances in the continent's premier club competition since 2018.

"Liverpool is a team, like I said last week, who has been in three finals in five seasons, they have an excellent coach and a big squad with balance," Van Bronckhorst said. "Even with injuries they have now, they can still field a really strong side. It's of course the first time we play against them [at Ibrox] but it would be a great win if we achieve it tomorrow.

"What Liverpool did last week was a little different to what they used to do. They have some injuries so we will have to see what their line-up will be, but the threat they have with their strikers, they are all at the top of their game, they have world-class players. We have to be ready for their attacks, but we have to be brave to attack as well more frequently than we did last week.

"It's always important to keep focus but it will be hectic because Liverpool's playing style is direct at times with long balls, runners and they have a lot of pace. An essential part of our game is also mentally, we have to be strong in every moment we face and make sure we stay with 11 men, that's for sure.

"We saw Liverpool at Arsenal [on Sunday], they had to defend as well in a low block at times. In the away game we had two big chances to score but we didn't and that can be the difference in the Champions League.

"Like I have said many times before, it's always easier to play the second game against an opponent. Of course we know Liverpool really well because of all the games they play in the Champions League and the Premier League.

"We played a strong side last week. We have to find more moments where we can be dangerous. Of course, our approach will be different tomorrow because we need points to play in Europe after the World Cup."

The Gers boss added: "We have no new fresh injuries. Glen Kamara is a little doubt, everyone else is good to go. We've had some strong performances at home, not only this season but also last.

"The game we played against Napoli was a really good one against a really strong opponent. We were in the game until the red card and the penalty. I think that gave us confidence for us to get something out of the home games and that is what we'll plan against Liverpool.

"We didn't really learn anything new from Liverpool last week. I think the build up they had was a little bit different than what they used to do so we need to prepare the players well. The Ibrox crowd will definitely push us to a good performance."
