People in Beeston have said ‘it’s about time’ for another supermarket in the town. Replacing the former Iceland, a new Asian shop: Oriental Mart has put its signage up.
On 1A Goldsmith Street in the city centre, is also the shop, Oriental Mart. At the shop, they sell a range of mainly Asian products ranging from noodles, soups , fortune cookies, rice and more.
In Beeston, people seem to be impressed with the improving retail options in the area. With a few empty units on the High Road however, some people are looking forward to seeing what else comes to town in the next few months.

Kim Fern, 45 lives in Beeston. She said: “I keep seeing people pop up to take a look at it. I think when any new shop opens somewhere people will look in and browse.”
Kim, a travel agent, continued and said: “Hopefully it’s cheap and cheerful. There’s more students in the area and this will give people another alternative as well as Tesco and Sainsbury’s in the area.
“I’ll definitely pop in once it’s open.” Oriental Mart first came to Nottingham in 2008.
Now closed, there was a shop on Heathcote Street, Hockley. The former shop was then turned into a Mexican restaurant.
With more than 3,000 fresh, frozen and dried products from countries including China, Korea, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam, it is now the biggest Oriental retailer in the Nottingham area.
Alice Hopewell, 34 lives in Trowell. Alice travels to Beeston often to use the high street. She said: “I love Beeston and it’s about time this shop was replaced. It’s nice to see something different too.”
The administrative officer continued and said: “Nottingham is so diverse. There’s different takeaways all over the city but we don’t need any more of those so it’s nice to see a supermarket back in the area, I remember when it was Iceland.”
Andy Smith, 59 is from Beeston. He said: “Beeston’s got some good places you can go to.
“I shop at the Tesco, I use the green grocers, we can’t complain too much about the town’s shops.”Now retired, Andy continued and said: “I will visit the Oriental Mart, I’m guessing that means it’ll be an international supermarket.”
