It's A Sin fans blast BAFTA as drama fails to win any awards and complain about sound issues

Viewers were fuming as the highly-acclaimed Channel Four mini-series It's a Sin failed to carry home any awards from the BAFTA 2022 TV Awards. Fans rushed to support the drama, focused on the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, saying it was 'robbed.'

The groundbreaking Russell T Davies drama filmed in Manchester was up for five gongs. As well as best mini series, Years and Years singer Olly Alexander was up for best leading actor for his powerful role as Ritchie Tozer.

Co-stars Lydia West (Jill Baxter) and Omari Douglas (Roscoe Babatunde) were nominated for best actress and best supporting actor. And Colin’s devastating AIDS diagnosis was in line to win the Must-See Moment. But to the dismay of fans it didn't win any.

@lilreene88 blased: "It's a Sin has been absolutely bloody robbed at the #BAFTAs!!!" @phillybaby1989 said: "I mean the fact It's a Sin got absolutely nothing disgusts me." And @MaddHattz said: "It's a Sin should have won all of the awards that they were nominated for and some of the ones they werent as well - the best drama of last year by a long way. Can't believe they won nothing!"

@dandiedinmont said: "Honestly cannot understand how It's A Sin won NOTHING at the BAFTAs. It should have been a clean sweep. Brilliant drama, totally ignored." @julieashers tweeted: "Let's talk about how It's A Sin being cruelly robbed." And @JamesTa19942772 wrote: "It's a Sin not winning a single BAFTA is an absolute crime."

@AdamAddicott tweeted: "It’s A Sin didn’t win anything at the Bafta’s which celebrates talent in the creative industry. The show was critically acclaimed, set an All 4 streaming record and was statiscally proven to have caused a rise in HIV awareness/testing.

"What other shows have done that recently?" And @_PigginTeaBreak said: "So ‘It’s a Sin’ got muted and didn’t win an award. Absolutely appalling."

Viewers also pointed out that the sound appeared to drop during the ceremony screened by the BBC, leading fans to wonder if clips from the drama had been 'censored.' But the Manchester Evening News understands that there was a 'sound glitch' with the clips.

@jonoread complained about the sound dropping: "Spent all night thinking #Baftas was shoddy when the sound kept going. Finally worked out they were censoring clips from It's a Sin." @Noddy_Taylor wrote: "Aside from the fact It’s a Sin didn’t win anything at the #BAFTAs the fact the BBC twice censored scenes from Its A Sin when clips were talking about AIDS is just mind blowing to me?!?!?!? Once could have been a sound issue but twice."

@NanaPimms tweeted: "I thought my sound was playing up - what a pathetic thing to do - It’s a Sin was fabulous." And @whatsthetee__ wrote: "Gutted for It’s a Sin, one of the most important tv shows of this generation and completely snubbed despite being nominated for the most awards. The sound censoring was also a joke." The Manchester Evening News has contacted the BBC and BAFTA for comment.
