While they weren't seen on screen, It's A Sin has in fact win two BAFTA Awards, as fans were left furious by its lack of accolades on the night.
After its debut in early 2021, It's A Sin written by Russell T.Davies, was heralded as 'the best TV drama for years,' by those who'd seen it and been left incredibly moved by its very real and raw telling of the AIDs epidemic of the late 80s and early 90s. So it came as little surprise that, when the nominations for the BAFTA TV Awards came out at the end of march, that It's A Sin led the way.
Unfortunately for all those involved with the show, those nominations did not equate to wins, with It's A Sin missing out in the majority of categories it was shortlisted for. Two of its stars, Callum Scott Howells and David Carlyle were beaten in Best Supporting Actor, with Matthew Macfadyen winning for Succession, while Olly Alexander lost out to Sean Bean for Leading Actor and Lydia West saw Jodie Comer triumph in her Leading Actress category.

It's A Sin also lost out to BBC prison drama Time for the Mini Series honour and was beaten to Must See Moment by Rose and Giovanni 's Couple's Choice routine from Strictly. Having already been annoyed by the fact the BBC muted clips of It's A Sin during the BAFTA broadcast, its lack of recognition was too much for some fans to bear.
However, there has been some good news as, while Russell T.Davies missed out on the Best Writer: Drama award, colleague Peter Hoar did win Best Direction: Fiction. And another award went It's A Sin's way when Sarah Brewerton won for Editing. Both those awards, were handed out two weeks ago at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards.
Twitter was awash with complaints about It's A Sin not getting the recognition it deserved, with one fan ranting: "It was such a wonderful and important piece of television. And them muting every video with clips of the show. Truly baffling. I’m just really sad for the team, they deserved better then this." Equally angry and disappointed, another reacted: "Poor show #BAFTAs #ItsASin should have won best drama and what was the deal with muting the clips? Ok..the show was aired pre watershed… pick appropriate clips then!"
