Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has described Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson as a 'vital' player for club and country.
Signed by Sir Kenny Dalglish back in June 2011 from his hometown club Sunderland for £16m, Henderson has gone on to etch his name into Anfield folklore. He was given the Reds captaincy after Steven Gerrard's departure for America in 2015.
Since then, the Liverpool midfielder has led his side to success in the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and Carabao Cup. He also won the League Cup in 2012 and was named Footballer of the Year in 2019.

Henderson has also featured regularly for Gareth Southgate England’s side, including in the Euro 2020 final last year. The midfielder has so far won 68 caps for his country.
And speaking ahead of England’s game against the Ivory Coast on Tuesday, Culture Cams questioned whether Henderson should be starting for England. But Ferdinand wasn’t having any of it.
“When he doesn’t play for Liverpool, they’re not as good. It’s a fact,” the former England centre-back told his FIVE YouTube channel.
“I just feel that someone like Jordan Henderson offers more than just ability in a Liverpool shirt and in an England shirt and I think he’s vital.
“Whether he plays or not, now that’s a different story because that’s debatable. But being in this as a squad member, there’s no doubt in my mind.”
