Sean McVay will skip NFL combine again this year

Sean McVay hasn’t attended the NFL combine since 2020, and that year, he left Indianapolis early before the week of workouts and meetings ended. McVay feels his resources can be better used back home in Los Angeles where he can work with his staff and prepare for the season, while also scouting these players from afar by watching the film.

He and the Rams have started a trend because other teams around the NFL are also keeping some of their coaches back home instead of traveling to Indianapolis. According to Art Stapleton, McVay is one of 12 coaches not on the schedule for formal interviews at the combine next week.

That doesn’t mean all 12 coaches will skip the combine, but in all likelihood, McVay will not be in attendance after skipping the last three years, too.

In addition to the 12 coaches, Stapleton also noted that six general managers aren’t on the interview schedule, either. We can assume Les Snead is one of the six because he’s also skipped the combine in recent years.

None of this means the Rams don’t see value in the combine. It’s just that they would rather set up shop at their own facility and scout players from home.

Update: McVay confirmed Thursday that he will not attend the combine.
