'It could be true' - Real Madrid president Florentino Perez makes Kylian Mbappe transfer claim amid Liverpool rumours

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez issued a light-hearted when quizzed on the possibility of Kylian Mbappe lining up for Los Blancos next season.

The Spanish side today secured the league title after a 4-0 home win over Espanyol, which moved them 17 points clear of second-placed Sevilla with only four matches remaining in the campaign. As a result, attention will now be turning to next season and what can be achieved.

One player who could help Madrid maintain their domestic dominance is none other than Mbappe, who has been strongly linked with a move to the Spanish capital this summer. The 23-year-old PSG forward is out of contact at the end of the season and is yet to agree a new deal to remain in Ligue 1.

Liverpool are among the sides to have been a rumoured destination for Mbappe in recent times, though there is a growing expectation the La Liga champions will look to complete a transfer after missing out on the French international during the January window.

Questioned on the prospect of signing the 2018 World Cup winner, Perez told Movistar via Marca: "Fans are excited about Kylian Mbappé? I hadn't thought about it - but now that you tell me, it could be true. Once we will plan the team for the next season, we see what happens."

With the league title already secured, Madrid will have hopes of adding the Champions League to their trophy cabinet before the end of the campaign. Defeated 4-3 by Manchester City in the first leg of their semi-final tie, Carlo Ancelotti's side could face Liverpool in the final of the competition should they overturn this one-goal deficit on home soil.

Commenting on the prospect of securing a 14th European Cup, Perez added: "I feel what all Madridistas feel, a great satisfaction. We had the objective of winning La Liga and winning the Champions League. We have won the first and now we have to see about the Champions League."
