Istanbul fire: Blaze at huge tower block as flames seen ripping through all floors

A fire has torn through a huge tower block in Turkey, with terrifying footage emerging from the blaze showing smoke spreading across the country's capital.

Footage from the incident shows a terrifying scene where smoke billows into the night as the flames burn the height of the tower.

The fire is believed to have taken place in Fikirtepe, an area of Istanbul, Turkey with videos showing the horror blaze circulating on social media.

The videos show a large presence of emergency response vehicles surrounding the burning tower as crowds gather to watch as the fire seems to have burned all the way through the huge tower.

There have been conflicting reports as to whether the tower block is a hotel or residence building and the cause of the blaze is not yet known.

The latest videos from the scene seem to show the blaze more under control with most of the fire put out.

The entire street is blocked off by a number of fire engines and other emergency response vehicles.

This comes just days after another explosion tore through the same area of the Turkish capital.

Last weekend a reported gas leak led to a huge explosion in another residential building in Fikirtepe that killed three people and injured another.

During that fire, Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya said: "The explosion occurred on the last floor of the building and the fire spread to a neighbouring building".

The fourth person was foreign but their nationality not confirmed.

Both fires devastated the same part of the country's capital city only a week apart.

The first blaze on October 9 was caused by an explosion which occurred on the second floor of a three story building in the Fikirtepe neighbourhood at 7pm that day.

It spread to the two buildings next door after successive explosions and firefighters were able to bring it under contorl after about an hour.

However, a ten-year-old girl and her 68-year-old grandfather died along with another person and the child's father was injured due to smoke inhalation according to Ali Yerlikaya.
