Reports from Syria's state TV indicate that Israeli strikes targeted a neighborhood in the Syrian capital, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and causing significant material damage. The strikes, which occurred on Wednesday morning, have not been officially confirmed by Israel.
The Syrian state TV mentioned that several missiles struck the western neighborhood of Kfar Sousseh, with specific details about the casualties remaining undisclosed. However, the pro-government Sham FM radio station suggested that the strike hit a building near an Iranian school.
According to the state news agency, SANA, an unnamed military official stated that the Israeli missiles were launched from the direction of Syria's Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The attack targeted a building, resulting in the deaths of two civilians and injuring another individual.
Rami Abdurrahman, who leads the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, noted that the two individuals killed were inside an apartment during the strike. However, their identities have not been revealed.
The strike caused damage to the fourth floor of a 10-story building, shattered windows of nearby buildings, and impacted numerous parked cars in the area. An empty bus belonging to the Al-Bawader Private School was also damaged, prompting parents to rush to the school to ensure the safety of their children.
Israel has conducted numerous strikes on targets within government-controlled areas of Syria in recent years. While Israel rarely acknowledges these actions, it has indicated that its targets often include bases of Iran-allied militant groups like Lebanon’s Hezbollah, which has provided support to Syrian President Bashar Assad’s forces.
Recent incidents include an Israeli strike in Beirut that targeted a Hamas official and strikes in Damascus that destroyed buildings used by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, resulting in casualties. Israel's military operations in Syria have also led to the deaths of Iranian and other foreign operatives in the region.
