An Israeli strike has resulted in casualties at the Asmaa school located west of Gaza City, as reported by Gaza’s Civil Defense. Video footage from the scene depicted victims being transported in pick-up trucks, including at least two children, with several individuals appearing deceased on the ground. The Hamas-run Government Media Office later confirmed that three of the deceased were employees of Hamas-affiliated media outlets.
The Civil Defense teams managed to recover several bodies and injured individuals, while continuing efforts to locate missing persons beneath the rubble. The school compound in Al-Shati refugee camp, housing numerous displaced individuals, has been targeted multiple times.
Efforts to obtain a statement from the Israel Defense Forces regarding the target of the strike are ongoing. Following a previous strike aimed at alleged Hamas operatives within the compound, the IDF emphasized Hamas' practice of situating its infrastructure within civilian areas.
The recent Israeli military operations in northern Gaza have once again led to the displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians and resulted in casualties due to bombardment. Authorities in Gaza have reported that the Israeli military has impeded the delivery of aid to certain regions.
The United Nations' human rights chief has issued a warning, describing the current situation in the northern part of the enclave as the war's 'darkest moment'.
