An Israeli strike targeted an industrial area south of the Syrian city of Homs, as reported by Syria’s state-run news agency. The strike, which occurred on Thursday, hit the city of Hassia, located approximately 35 kilometers (22 miles) from Homs and in close proximity to the Lebanese border. The agency stated that the strike resulted in material damage at a factory in Hassia and also targeted a military site in the Hama countryside.
According to a military source cited by the agency, the attack took place around 1 a.m. local time and originated from the direction of northern Lebanon, focusing on a car factory. Fortunately, the source mentioned that the losses from the strike were limited to material damage only.
Israel has been involved in several recent attacks on Syria, with a focus on targeting what it claims are Hezbollah figures and infrastructure used for smuggling weapons into Lebanon. Just this week, at least seven individuals lost their lives and 11 others were injured in an Israeli attack on a residential building in Damascus, as confirmed by sources who geolocated the building near various diplomatic facilities. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) chose not to provide a comment on this incident.
Last Friday, the Israeli military disclosed that it had struck an underground tunnel crossing the Lebanese border into Syria, utilized by Hezbollah for transporting weapons from Iran and its proxies to Lebanon. Hezbollah, a part of an Iran-led alliance spanning multiple regions, including Yemen, Syria, Gaza, and Iraq, has engaged in hostilities against Israel and its allies, particularly during Israel’s recent conflict with Hamas that commenced a year ago.
