Israeli security agencies have revealed the dismantling of an Iranian spy ring operating in northern Israel. This discovery follows the detention of seven Israeli citizens suspected of aiding Iran, the top adversary of Jerusalem.
The suspects, including two minors and five adults, were accused of gathering intelligence on key military and energy infrastructures. They allegedly provided information to Iranian agents under the code names 'Elkhan' and 'Orkhan'.
According to reports, the spy network focused on Israeli military bases, air force and naval installations, as well as the Iron Dome defense system. Additionally, they gathered intelligence on Israel's critical energy infrastructure, including the Hadera power station.
The suspects used sophisticated equipment to photograph sensitive locations and received payment, including cryptocurrency, for their activities. Israeli security forces also discovered that the group was spying on other Israeli citizens with malicious intent.
During the investigation, security agencies arrested the suspects while they were conducting surveillance on a potential target of an Iranian attack. The group's actions were deemed to have caused significant harm to Israel's national security.
The suspects are expected to face indictments in the near future. This incident comes amidst heightened tensions between Israel and Iran, with previous cases of Iranian espionage being uncovered.
In a separate incident in August, an Israeli citizen from southern Israel was arrested for allegedly assisting Iran in planning attacks, including targeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
