Israeli police have detained five suspects for throwing objects towards journalists during an annual parade organized by nationalist Israelis in Jerusalem. The incident occurred during the flag-flying parade held to mark Jerusalem Day, which commemorates Israel's capture of East Jerusalem from Jordan in the 1967 war.
The suspects were apprehended for throwing objects towards journalists near the Press area at Shechem (Damascus) Gate. They are currently being interrogated at a Jerusalem district station, as confirmed by the police statement.
The parade route started from Damascus Gate, the main entry to the Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem's Old City, predominantly inhabited by Palestinians. Participants in the march were seen waving Israeli flags, dancing, and chanting nationalist slogans.
To ensure security, thousands of Israeli police officers were deployed in the area, according to the police statement. The police strongly condemned any attempt to harm journalists, media personnel, or any other individuals carrying out their duties.
