Israeli Opposition Leader Criticizes Netanyahu's Hostage Deal Remarks

Israeli opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot has raised concerns over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent comments regarding a potential 'partial deal' with Hamas to secure the release of some hostages. Eisenkot emphasized that Netanyahu's remarks deviate from a previous decision made by the country's war cabinet.

According to Eisenkot, the war cabinet had previously agreed on two options for dealing with the hostage situation: either a 'deal in one step,' known as 'all for all,' or a 'complete deal in three steps.' This decision was reached unanimously by the cabinet members.

Eisenkot expressed the need for clarification from the prime minister, stating that Netanyahu's comments have caused turmoil among the families of the hostages. He highlighted that the soldiers currently engaged in fighting are doing so with the objective of securing the release of the hostages, and any deviation from the agreed-upon strategy could hinder Israel's goals.

Netanyahu's statement about being open to a 'partial deal' with Hamas was made during an interview with Israeli media, where he also reiterated his commitment to continuing the war against Hamas even after a ceasefire. Eisenkot criticized Netanyahu for potentially undermining Israel's objectives with his remarks.

Eisenkot stressed the importance of immediate clarification from the prime minister regarding his stance on the hostage situation. He emphasized the need for consistency in Israel's approach to achieving its goals and ensuring the safe return of the hostages.
