Israeli Officials Chuckle At Ceasefire Proposal Amid Diplomatic Efforts

Palestinians react after Hamas accepted a ceasefire proposal from Egypt and Qatar, in Rafah

Israeli Strategic Minister Ron Dermer and Ambassador Michael Herzog did not provide a direct answer when questioned about their stance on the ceasefire proposal between Israel and Hezbollah. Instead, both officials responded with a slight chuckle. Dermer humorously remarked that 'less is more' when it comes to diplomatic discussions. He mentioned that their day of meetings had just commenced, following his arrival on Wednesday.

The two Israeli representatives met with Secretary of State Antony Blinken, arriving just before 5 p.m., which was four hours later than the scheduled time. The United States is actively involved in a diplomatic effort to persuade both Israel and Hezbollah to agree to the 21-day ceasefire plan that was introduced on Wednesday evening.

The Biden administration emphasized on Thursday that there remains a diplomatic avenue for achieving a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon. The ongoing discussions and negotiations reflect the commitment of various parties to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
