Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the Israeli military for their successful rescue operation of four hostages held in Gaza. During a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu commended the 'heroic operation' and vowed to continue efforts to recover all individuals held in the enclave.
Netanyahu described the operation as 'complex and dangerous,' which took place on Thursday evening. He highlighted the bravery of the Israeli soldiers who charged into the situation, eliminated the terrorists, and freed the hostages. However, Netanyahu did not address the casualties in Gaza resulting from the operation.
The families of the rescued hostages expressed immense relief and gratitude. Orit Meir, the mother of one of the hostages, Almog Meir Jan, shared her joy at being reunited with her son, especially as her birthday gift. She thanked the Israeli military and government for their efforts but emphasized the urgency of securing the release of other captives still in Gaza.
Hagai Levine from the Hostages and Missing Families Forum stressed that military raids alone would not be sufficient to ensure the freedom of all hostages. He called for a comprehensive approach, echoing a plea for a deal similar to one proposed by President Biden that would facilitate the return of all captives, whether alive or deceased, and establish a ceasefire.
The successful rescue operation has brought hope to the families of the hostages, but the broader issue of captives in Gaza remains a pressing concern that requires a collaborative and diplomatic solution.
