The Israeli military has issued a directive to the only functioning hospital in northern Gaza, Kamal Adwan Hospital, to evacuate within 24 hours. The hospital's director, Hussam Abu Safiya, revealed that the army delivered the ultimatum in a threatening manner, warning that all patients must be removed or face potential danger.
Kamal Adwan Hospital, situated between Beit Lahiya and Jabalya, areas earmarked for evacuation by Israel in preparation for air and ground operations, is at the center of this development. Safiya expressed concern over what he described as the arbitrary displacement of residents in northern Gaza.
Despite having already transferred some patients to alternative medical facilities due to fuel shortages, the hospital staff is committed to continuing to provide essential medical services to the community. Safiya emphasized the critical role of Kamal Adwan Hospital as the sole healthcare provider in the region, highlighting the potential humanitarian crisis that could arise if the hospital is forced to cease operations.
While efforts are being made to evacuate more patients, challenges remain, particularly concerning vulnerable groups such as infants in the neonatal unit. The Gaza health ministry condemned Israel's evacuation order and called for the protection of all medical institutions in the region.
