Israel's military is currently investigating an incident after Lebanese officials accused an Israeli strike of killing two soldiers in southern Lebanon on Friday. The Lebanese army reported that Israeli strikes targeted an army base in Kafra, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that they are looking into the reported incident and mentioned that they were not aware of a Lebanese Armed Forces facility in the area.
The IDF clarified that they had conducted strikes on Hezbollah terror targets in southern Lebanon before receiving the report about the soldiers being hit. They have initiated a thorough examination of the incident and emphasized their lack of knowledge about any LAF facility in the strike area.
It is important to note that Israel is engaged in conflict with Hezbollah, an Iran-backed paramilitary group operating in southern Lebanon. While targeting Hezbollah, Israeli strikes have unfortunately resulted in the deaths of over 1,400 Lebanese civilians and at least three soldiers, as reported by Lebanon's government.
The IDF reiterated that their operations in southern Lebanon are directed against Hezbollah and not the state of Lebanon itself. Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the strike in Kafra, labeling it as another instance of what he described as 'persistent Israeli crimes against Lebanon.'
