Israeli Military Encircles Jabalya In Northern Gaza

The Israeli military has announced that it has encircled Jabalya in northern Gaza and is currently conducting operations in the area. Prior to the ground operation in the refugee camp, airstrikes were carried out overnight, targeting weapons storage facilities, underground infrastructure sites, terrorist cells, and other military infrastructure sites. The strikes, lasting approximately 90 minutes, were focused on eastern Jabalya and nearby Gaza City.

Following the airstrikes, paramedics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society reported two fatalities and several injuries after an apartment near the UNRWA clinic in Jabalya refugee camp was hit. UNRWA, a relief organization operating in Palestinian territories, provides humanitarian aid to those in need.

The Israeli military stated that it had identified the presence of Hamas members in the area and their attempts to rebuild operational capabilities, prompting the ongoing operation to dismantle such infrastructure. The military emphasized its commitment to continuing the operation until its objectives are achieved.

In a previous conflict in May, the Israeli military had engaged in fighting in northern Gaza, claiming to have dismantled Hamas' command structure in January. However, subsequent reports indicated Hamas' efforts to regroup in the region, casting doubt on Israel's goal of eradicating the group from the enclave.

Prior to the recent operation, the Israeli military issued evacuation warnings to residents in northern Gaza. The military spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, announced the publication of a new evacuation map for the area and expanded the scope of the humanitarian zone in Al-Mawasi, providing safe routes for civilians.

The expanded Humanitarian Area includes field hospitals, tent compounds, and supplies of essential items such as food, water, medicine, and medical equipment. Palestinians in the region have been evacuating since late Saturday, relocating to Gaza City for safety.
