The Israeli military has confirmed that its operation near Al-Shifa hospital in northern Gaza is ongoing for the fourth consecutive day. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have stated that in collaboration with the Israeli Security Agency (ISA) troops, they are engaged in precise operational activities within the hospital premises.
According to the IDF, over 50 individuals labeled as 'terrorists' were reportedly 'eliminated' in the past day, with a total of more than 140 since the commencement of the operation on Monday. The IDF also asserted the discovery of weapons storage facilities within the hospital compound.
Despite requests for information regarding the individuals killed or detained during the operation at Al-Shifa on Wednesday, the IDF has not provided any details yet. The situation within the hospital complex remains largely unknown, with hundreds believed to be trapped while many others have evacuated the area.
Eyewitnesses from the hospital have recounted instances where Palestinian journalists and health workers were detained by Israeli forces, blindfolded, and stripped down to their underwear within the complex. Palestinian reporters and hospital staff have described distressing scenes of interrogations where their colleagues were undressed and left outside in the cold after the IDF besieged the largest hospital in the enclave early on Monday. One individual who was detained reported being released without his identification or mobile phone.
Meanwhile, the IDF has reported that its operations are ongoing in central Gaza and northern Khan Younis.
