The Israeli military has claimed responsibility for strikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs that resulted in the death of Hezbollah commander Muhammad Hussein Srour. The military stated that Srour was the head of the group’s Aerial Command.
According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), under the direction of IDF intelligence, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) targeted and eliminated Srour in Beirut. The IDF alleged that Srour, a longtime member of Hezbollah, was involved in promoting and executing several terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF soldiers using UAVs and explosive devices.
Prime Minister Netanyahu reportedly approved the operation while en route to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Following the strikes, there has been no official response from Hezbollah regarding the Israeli military’s claim of Srour's death.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that at least two individuals were killed and 15 others were injured when Israeli warplanes targeted a building in Beirut’s southern suburbs, specifically in the area of Dahiyeh. Among the injured is a woman in critical condition.
The strike took place in Haret Hreik, a densely populated area with a significant Hezbollah presence.
