An Israeli far-right lawmaker has called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to consider a plan to expel Palestinians from Gaza, following remarks made by US President Donald Trump regarding the future of Palestinians in the region.
The Jewish Power party leader, Itamar Ben Gvir, who recently resigned as national security minister in protest over a Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal, emphasized that encouraging the migration of Palestinians is the only solution to the Gaza issue.
Ben Gvir's stance was reinforced by Trump's suggestion during a meeting with Netanyahu at the White House, where the US President proposed relocating Palestinians in Gaza to a new location provided by Middle Eastern nations, questioning the viability of remaining in the war-torn territory.
The Israeli far-right has long advocated for the expulsion of Palestinians from Gaza and the reestablishment of Jewish settlements in the area. This proposal has gained support from some Israeli real estate firms, with advertisements for beach-front properties in the enclave.
However, the idea of displacing Palestinians to Jordan and Egypt was met with strong opposition from both countries, as well as other Arab allies of the US. This proposal has raised concerns about the longstanding international consensus on the right of Palestinians to a homeland.
Despite the controversy surrounding the issue, Saudi Arabia reiterated its unwavering support for a Palestinian state, underscoring the complexities and sensitivities involved in addressing the situation in Gaza.
