Israeli Hostage's Father Anticipates Long Fight For Son's Release

Palestinian Islamist group Hamas releases hostages

The father of Israeli hostage Nimrod Cohen expressed his outlook on the ceasefire-for-hostages deal, stating that he foresees a prolonged battle before his son is freed. Nimrod Cohen, a 20-year-old soldier with the Israel Defense Forces, is not expected to be part of the initial group of 33 hostages set to be released in the first phase of the agreement.

The deal, brokered by Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, will involve the exchange of hostages, including civilians, female soldiers, children, the elderly, and the sick, for an undisclosed number of Palestinian prisoners. Yehuda Cohen emphasized the need to maintain pressure on the Israeli government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to ensure the deal progresses as planned.

According to Cohen, the family is prepared for an extended period of advocacy and activism to secure Nimrod's release. He highlighted the importance of actively pursuing the agreement rather than relying solely on hope or prayers. Cohen stressed the significance of proactive efforts in driving the process forward, stating, 'Things happen because people make sure they are happening.'

As the negotiations unfold, the Cohens are gearing up for a challenging journey ahead, with a focus on both the immediate release of hostages and the subsequent phases of the agreement. Yehuda Cohen's determination to fight for his son's freedom underscores the family's commitment to seeing the deal through to its completion.
